MAJULI : GOD'S CREATION

Image
Majuli, world’s largest river island Where is Majuli? Majuli is a river island on the Brahmaputra River in Assam. It also happens to be the second largest freshwater river island in the world and the largest in Asia. It is an isolated place. Isolated in terms of the incessant crowd and hustle of the mainland, nature has quietly seeped in here and seduced its inhabitants into a life of tranquility. The Brahmaputra flows to the south of the island while the Kherkutia Xuti joins the River Subansiri in the north. The island was once quite large spanning an area of more than 1500 sq km . But the Brahmaputra waters have not been so kind and eroded about one-third of the island. Majuli now has an area of only 352 sq km . The Brahmaputra is still eroding this island. But it is large enough to have several small villages within it and it has been now declared as a separate district. The place is the home to a number of tribes mainly the Mishings . The Satras of Majuli: Some 6...

MIZORAM DIARIES

Places I visited in Mizoram Mizoram, also known as the Land of Blue Mountains and the Land of Lushai Highlanders is an exceptionally beautiful place. Covered with lush green forests, tourism in Mizoram is known for its breathtaking views from cliffs, stunning waterfalls and picturesque villages set amidst seas of morning mist that enfold the hills and peaks in its embrace. Mizoram runs at its own rhythm. This is what I understood on my in Mizoram. Literally tucked in one corner of the country, tourism in Mizoram has not yet seen the rush. Thus, the beautiful mountain villages and the verdant valleys beyond Aizawl remains quite a tempting destination for off-the-beaten-track travellers. The Mizos are friendly and helpful; they lead their life on their own terms. Solomon Temple The Solomon Temple located in the Aizawl district of Mizoram is a very famous place of Mizoram and is an important destination for the people of the Christian faith. The temple is actually a church ...

KOHIMA DIARIES

Image
Places I visited in Kohima, Nagaland Kohima can be visited throughout the year. Since most visitors prefer to visit during the Hornbill Festival ( 1-10 December ) , it is highly recommended to reserve accommodation in advance during the peak season. Greener Pastures conducts tailored tours to the hornbill festival which is often included with other interesting aspects of nearby areas. The Sekrenyi Festival of the Angami tribe in February is also a good time to experience the local culture. Visiting Kohima for the Dzukou valley trek is suitable during the months of June to October. World War II Memorial , considered as the main landmark of Kohima, is situated at the heart of the town and is a reminder of the Battle of Kohima in 1944 and the sacrifices made by the valiant British and Indian defenders against the invading Japanese forces. Many families of martyrs from Britain still visit to pay their homage to the brave soldiers. This memorial and its beautiful lawns are we...

MANIPUR DIARIES

2020 has come, maybe not with a bang as a lot of me may have hoped, but the world goes on and as such I have decided to record my past travels for all to see. I was solo travelling in Northeast India in December and was loving my experiences; even though the infrastructural difficulties meant a lot of time was spent in moving from one place to another. When the clock neared noon, I put a limit of 1 pm in my own mind. The 1 pm limit meant if I couldn’t find a ride for Imphal; then I would just head back to find a homestay near Kohima and try afresh the next day. Upon reaching Imphal, my plan for the day was to visit Ima Market and go for local Sightseeing. However, my friends had informed me that, there was a Loktak Festival going on there and I was very lucky to be here on this day so he suggested me to visit Loktak Lake instead and if possible, to take part in the local festival. I really felt this would really be something unique experience for me. As I personally believe...

I have narrowed down the following to create a balance of the amazing things to do, places to see and food items to eat. If you are travelling to the Amritsar for the first time, this one is dedicated to you it includes a balance of travelling and eating as you would be already knowing Amritsar is famous for the food and foodies.   The next morning I freshed up and before going to Golden temple I visited to Jallianwala bagh. In the year 1919 on 13th of April, the British Indian Army headed by Brigadier General Dyer began shooting at the...

RAJASTHAN DIARIES

I always wanted to visit Jaipur and finally on 2nd January 2019 I boarded from Delhi. I visited Jaipur its popularly known as pink city. Pink is the colour of hospitality . I felt very welcomed there . The city is organized in a grid format but despite this setup it still felt like it was an absolute maze. Despite the crazy and chaotic feel of the city. That place is amazing. Ienjoyed alot.   It took me four hours from Delhi to Jaipur. I arrived there and just wandering around through all Jaipurs tiny street alleyways was a treat. Its an incredible destination for photographers and creative alike an easy place for finding artistic inspiration. Just keep an eye on your stuff other than that Jaipur is a very safe city for solo travellers. Hawa Mahal Palace is right in the city center and close to Johari Bazar. It has 953 latticework windows which were actually made for women to look out into main street without been noticed. A lot of stop here to t...
