MIZORAM DIARIES
Places I visited in Mizoram
Mizoram,
also known as the Land of Blue Mountains
and the Land of Lushai Highlanders is
an exceptionally beautiful place. Covered with lush green forests, tourism in Mizoram is known for
its breathtaking views from cliffs, stunning waterfalls and picturesque
villages set amidst seas of morning mist that enfold the hills and peaks in its
embrace. Mizoram runs at its own rhythm. This is what I understood on my in
Mizoram. Literally tucked in one corner of the country, tourism in Mizoram has
not yet seen the rush. Thus, the beautiful mountain villages and the verdant
valleys beyond Aizawl remains quite a tempting destination for
off-the-beaten-track travellers. The Mizos are friendly and helpful; they lead their
life on their own terms.
Solomon
Temple
The
Solomon Temple located in the Aizawl district of Mizoram is a very famous place
of Mizoram and is an important destination for the people of the Christian
faith. The temple is actually a church built by the religious sect of Kohhran
Thianghlim. The temple has acquired its famed status as one of the prime
tourist places in Mizoram thanks to the story behind it. The founder of the
Kohhran Thianghlim, Mr. LB Sailo is believed to have had a vision in 1996 in
which he saw the Solomon Temple being constructed in Mizoram. The foundation of
the church was laid in 1997, and it took the organisation two arduous decades
to turn that vision into reality. Built in the image of its namesake in Israel,
the Solomon Temple is made with pristine white marble and has been crafted by
artists with exceptional skills. It is undeniably one of the most famous places
to visit in Mizoram.
Phawngpui
Tlang (Blue Mountain)
Phawngpui
Tlang or the Blue Mountain is among the famous places in Mizoram. This place is
among the top tourist places in Mizoram owing to the fact that it is the
highest peak in the state. Populated by herds of mountain goats, there is
minimal to no human intervention at the slopes of the Blue Mountain, leaving
them fairly untouched. The mountain is a popular place to visit in Mizoram
among the trekking circuit and adventure seekers and has breathtaking views to
offer. The lush green valleys of the Mizo mountain ranges can be fully
appreciated from the Phawngpui Tlang, towering at a massive elevation of 7000
feet.
The
valleys leading to the peak of Phawngpui sport an abundance of orchids and
rhododendrons that cover the entire region. Located 230 kilometres from Aizawl,
the capital of Mizoram, Phawngpui Tlang is easy to reach and has general
gradual slopes that can be hiked over by tourists of all ages.
Khwanglung
Wildlife Sanctuary
The
Khwanglung Wildlife Sanctuary is located 126 kilometres south of the capital
city of Mizoram, Aizawl. The sanctuary is a wildlife reserve region spanning an
area of about 35 square kilometres. The sanctuary is one of the most popular
visiting places in Mizoram due to the biodiversity and lush greenery you can
experience here. Animal species that call the sanctuary home include several endangered
species such as the Royal Bengal Tiger and the Sambar, along with some other
unique animals that are a common sight in the sanctuary. The Sero, barking
deer, gibbon, and the hoolock are some of the animals that can be spotted here.
The
sanctuary, apart from being a safe haven for all life forms, is a brilliant
destination to experience the natural beauty of Mizoram. The lush valleys and
the stunning views of the sanctuary are hard to miss, which makes this one of
the best places to visit in Mizoram.
Vantawng
Falls
The
Vantawng Falls are the highest waterfall in the state of Mizoram, standing at
an altitude of 750 feet. The Vantawng Falls are also one of the primary places
to visit in Mizoram for experiencing the natural beauty around the falls. Situated
at a distance of 137 kilometres from the state capital, Aizawl, the falls are a
popular attraction for tourists and nature enthusiasts. Travellers from all
across the world visit the falls to behold its splendour. Apart from the falls,
one can engage in activities like trekking and hiking to enjoy the surrounding
thick forests and greenery.
The
water of the Vantawng Falls comes from the Vanva River and can be seen
glistening as it leaps into the 750 feet drop. Since the falls are surrounded
by thick forests, it can be viewed only from a distance, but even from afar it
is a truly mesmerising sight.
